"But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not
terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the
end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise
against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:" Luke 21:9-10.
Wars and the ravages of civil distress are affecting millions
worldwide. There were 35 ongoing conflicts at the end of 2003.
Only Jesus' soon coming will bring an end to the pain and destruction
of war.
"The United Nations defines "major wars" as
military conflicts inflicting 1,000 battlefield deaths per
year. In 1965, there were 10 major wars under way. The millennium
ended with much of the world consumed in armed conflict or
cultivating an uncertain peace. At the end of 2003, there
were 15 Major Wars under way, with at least 20 "lesser" conflicts
ongoing. "
