Prophecy: "But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the
coming of the Son of man be." Matthew 24:37
The condition of society today is similar to what it was in
the time of Noah and Lot; and if Jesus was among us, he would
say, "Can ye not discern the signs of the times?"
"And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also
in the days of the Son of Man. They did eat, they drank, they
married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that
Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed
them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did
eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they
builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained
fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even
thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed."
"Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord doth
come. But know this, that if the good man of the house had known
in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and
would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore
be ye also ready; for in such as hour as ye think not the Son
of Man cometh." The world is given up to the pursuit of
temporal affairs, as men were in the days of Noah. They are
eating, drinking, planting, building, marrying, and giving in
marriage. These things are all lawful in themselves, but it
is the carrying of them to excess and the perversion of the
holy which is sinful. Marriage has been perverted to minister
to passion.
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it
is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile
thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast
to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves
in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled
which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore
I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself
vomiteth out her inhabitants." Leviticus
18:22-25
"And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the
earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart
was only evil continually... The earth also was corrupt before
God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked
upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had
corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The
end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled
with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them
with the earth." Genesis 6:5, 11-13
The world has had great light, and has been greatly favored,
and yet the people of the world come short of living up to their
responsibilities. The warning Christ gave to the cities that
had been most highly favored and had not repented, applies to
the world in this day: "Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto
thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in
you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented
long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall
be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment
than for thee."
