What does the Bible say about suicide?
The Bible says that the just shall live by faith. Typically, but not in every case, a suicide is a result of a person losing hope and losing faith. In most cases, a suicide would indicate a lost relationship with Jesus. The Bible also says, “Thou shalt not kill.” That would include suicide. If it’s a sin to take life that you cannot create, that would include your own life.

There are exceptions. For instance, Samson basically committed suicide. Yet he laid down his life to save others. Technically, a person who kills himself to save others is a suicide, but they are doing it principally out of love rather out of hopelessness.

However, only God knows the human heart. There are some people who have taken their lives because their grief or physical pain was more than they could bear. They loved the Lord, they served the Lord, but they were in so much agony because of physical suffering or emotional devastation or even a chemical change in their brain that they acted in haste. Therefore, we would not venture to judge and say all suicides result in the loss of someone’s salvation.
